Hi,
I once ordered a urvilleanus as it was only 3 $. I asked for cites and I was told that it is possible at a extra money. I asked how much - no answer. Be careful, if you a lucky, the customs do not care as they don´t know but maybe you get a lot of trouble. With a valid cites, it will be expensive so have a look at german dealers as Zöller or aureus butterflies. Anyway, I Russia you can buy cites as well as passports, driving licences and surely cites. Always buy Ornitho with CITES permits. The sellers indicated by skandinavisk are excellent indeed. You can also buy from outside EU, if sellers provide CITES permits.

Reputable, law compliant suppliers charge more for product because they are covering risks. Would you buy a BMW from an Ebay seller in Russia? No, then why buy insects? Reputable retailers have already suffered non-shipments, sorted through damaged specimens, and guarantee their product. This has a cost- in fact, a high cost. But look at the many collectors who complain about being ripped off. It's not worth the risk or stress. Just buy a quality specimen from a reputable dealer. Chuck

Speaking of which, I just opened an email from a Russian seller to whom I asked a very unrelated and general question, and he offers me a pair of O.Alex, and a male O.Allotei. ::eyeroll::

I speak from experience when I say that you do not want CITES officials at your door, the whole saga is brutal, upsetting and downright frightening, for the sake of a butterfly specimen, don't go anywhere near these people, you may get away with it once, twice or a dozen times but they do watch, they have nothing else to do.

I’ve been offered it every time I’m in country. Local price is $500. But I have no need for it.
