Hello all, Here is a moth I photogaphied in July in Quebec, Canada (near Vermont, USA). Could it be Haploa confusa? I have difficulties to separate H. confusa from H. lecontei.... Thanks for your help... Michel Quebec, Canada www.facebook.com/ParcoursNature/ Attachments:

It is Haploa confusa (#8112). Visit Moth Photographs Group and Family Arctidea and # 8112. Fortunately, the specimen to the left is Haploa locontei (#8111).

Ok I found it...
Not sure I can rely on wing pattern only to distinguish between H. confusa and lecontei as pattern are variable for each species.
Comments?
Thanks,
Michel

Here is the link to moth photographers Group. Www.mothphotographersgroup.msstate.eduOnce you open the home page you will see on the left the Main Menu, the click on Plate Series. You scroll down to Arctiidea. Open Arctiidea and scroll down to Species Number 8112. When you find 8112, click the number 8212 below the specimen and you will find species information and additional images when available. There is also a Distribution Map. Moth Photographers Group is the greatest resource for identification of Norh American Moths.

There is a basic fundamental pattern to each species. It can get confusing when they have no pattern and then they all look alike. What can be confusing about that? spread your specimens then go compare them to moths illustrated on mothphotographers. If you run into a problem, send me a photograph of your moth in question along with collection date, especially location and I will see what I can do.
