Hi All, I live in the Dominican Republic. I left a glass of water on my counter over night (perhaps two nights). This morning upon examination, I found a bunch of floating black specs in the water. My first thought was fleas - but upon closer examination they don't seem to have any legs. The things themselves are black, shiny, and seem to congregate in the water (though I don't see them actually moving on their own volition all that much). Any idea what these could be? Some kind of larvae perhaps? Thank you!

Could be mosquito egg masses, rather than larvae.
Adam.

Could be mosquito egg masses, rather than larvae. Adam. Adam I think you might be right. close up photo could be better to solve this.

Greetings,
This may be way off base, but my first impression was that they look like Collembola. They seem to have a narrowed "head" and short stumpy legs. I have no idea why Collembola would be in such a situation, it's just the image I conjured when I first saw the picture. A better image with a more closeup view would be helpful to get a good ID.
Cheers! Bandrow
