Recently I have seen tons of these winged bugs in my backyard mostly by my wood shed and near some trees. I'm wondering if anyone knows what they are and if they are dangerous since I have 2 boys that play out there frequently. Also if they are dangerous how i might get rid of them. Thanks for any info in advance.

Greetings,
Your insect is a species of Ichneumonidae, a parasitic wasp. The ichneumonids are an extremely diverse group of wasps that typically parasitize the larvae of other insects, including caterpillars and grubs of wood-boring beetles. They are not harmful to humans, and for the species that are capable of stinging, the sting isn't serious as they do not possess venom that groups like bees, paper wasps and hornets possess.
They are probably attacking caterpillar pests somewhere in the yard, or possibly parasitizing wood-borer larvae in the area (firewood pile, dead trees or branches, etc.). Nothing to worry about...
Cheers! Bandrow

Thank you for your quick response. That makes sense now that you mention it, the wood pile they are around does seem to have some grubs that come out when I split the wood. I guess I'll just hope that they keep to themselves.
