Where in the World are you? That information would help someone give a more accurate identification.
Adam.

Greetings,
I believe your bug is the larva of a beetle in the family Dermestidae. Dermestid beetle larvae feed on a variety of dried organic materials - dried plants, natural cotton or wool products, and animal skins and feathers. They are particularly despised for the damage they cause to insect collections - feeding on the dried specimens, creating holes in them or consuming parts, or left unchecked, completely destroying the specimens, leaving nothing but a label on a pin.
If you are seeing a bunch, examine the immediate vicinity for a potential food source. If you have pets, look around their food bowl area to see if a piece of kibble fell under an appliance, or into a corner - this can be a hot-spot - one piece of dog food can sustain a lot of little beetle larvae. Some natural potpourri mixtures can harbor these as well. Accumulations of dead insects on window sills can also be a source of dermestids. The adults generally feed on pollen and are not a problem - other than that they create more of the dastardly little insect-munchers!
Cheers! Bandrow
