probably are O.V.E or O.V.M directly from the locations of the islands. i don't know. without a correct name of subspecies makes a lot trouble.

Hi, I'm not expert in butterfly but I know well Solomon Isl. Maramasike is in the south of Malaita Isl. The two island are separated by a narrow waterway called Maramasike Passage. The other place for me is Makira Isl. and not Marika; no place in the Solomon has name Marika. Carlo A.

Lol, of course it's Makira and not 'Marika'. 'Marika' is a Greek female's name . For me: maramasikensis = reginae -----> from Malaita. And epiphanes -----> from Makira. Of course, reginae is clearly different from epiphanes. Maramasikensis seems to me exactly the same in morphology with reginae and,as they have the same distribution(Malaita),I find no reason for being different subspecies other than commercial ones.(Also, according to Matsuka(2001),maramasikensis=reginae). On some envelops of specimens,it's written 'S.Malaita',which means either 'South Malaita' or the island of 'Small Malaita'='Mara Masike' island(maramasikensis is named after this island). (Note that,as the species in named after Queen Victoria, the correct name is 'victoriae' and not 'victorea'). You can check T.Nagypal's birdwings' site(also about the other subspecies, like rubianus etc,and their distribution) for more info. Thanos

Striking specimen indeed too bad about the greassy bum...
I hate it when that happens, especially after treating it with acetone
