While I was cleaning the swimming pool I found this large cricket like bug lazily swimming and I was in awe to discover it didnt look like any cricket I've seen as it had what appeared to be praying mantis like claws shaped into gears.
As soon as I took it off the water it fell into the wooden grating and I was not able to get it out since.

You didn't mention where in the world your swimming pool is, but I can say that this is a species of mole cricket, family Gryllotalpidae. The forelegs are adapted for digging as it lives underground much of the time, hence the common name.
