Is A. cecrops pamina the only subspecies found in the US or is nominate cecrops also found in the states? If so, where? I have several A. cecrops in my collection but I am not sure if I can assume the subspecies from location, eg. Arizona. Are these subspecies visibly distinguishable?

Post a photograph and the location information that came with the specimen.
I really got into Automeris many years ago. However, not every collector I traded was truthful. I eventually made numerous trips out west and have a relatively good collection of North American Automeris.
I have a friend who collects Saturnidae of the "New World". He has 25+ drawers of Automeris.

First I just need to know whether there are two subspecies of Automeris cecrops in the USA or if A. c. pamina is the ONLY subspecies in the USA.
If there are two, I will gladly post photos of the specimens of cecrops I have for ssp. ID.

I believe based on the books and literature that I have looked at, which I would not say is definitive, that there is the nominate in Mexico, pamina in AZ and New Mexico, and peigleri in Mexico. I think only pamina is in the USA.

I think A. cecrops pamina’s closest relative is A. zephyria. It is remarkably similar in appearance, habitat preference and flight time. For whatever reason I think pamina is found on the western side of the continental divide and zephyria is found on the east side.
It would be interesting to know what occurred in the past to isolate the two populations to cause the divergence.
