I have a question. I have identified some bugs in my home and they are Indian meal moths. I am wondering if these bugs are harmful to the structure of my home. I have read that they consume dry food but I am wondering if they are more harmful? Thanks

No, Indian meal moths will not harm the structure of your home. They are more annoying than harmful. The larvae are feeding on such things as nuts, dry dog food or other dried food you have that is not in a well sealed container. Best to clean out your pantry and either through out these dried food items or put them in the freezer for 4 or 5 days. The adult moths do not feed, it is the larvae that are feeding on your stored material, the larvae will either pupate where they are feed or crawl out and pupate in you cabinets or wherever they find a suitable place so you will have adults emerging for several weeks. The adult female moths mate and lay more eggs where there is a food source for the larvae.
