Hello insect people!
We live in Bangkok and we have a problem with our drinking water. We get it delivered in big jugs, office drinking fountain style. This water comes from one of the most reputable companies around here. Since a week or two we have found small insects/larvae? living in the container we pump the water into from the big jug. This has never happened before and Im not sure what the insects are or where they come from. The container and the pump have been thoroughly cleaned and the water is supposed to be very good filtered reverse osmosis water. This is what the water is supposed do go through to clean it as stated by the company:
Step 1
Ultra Filtration eliminates fine particles larger than 0.01 micron and any existing yeasts, molds or bacteria during this initial filtration.
Step 2
Reverse Osmosis eliminates unwanted dissolved organic and inorganic substances, hard metals, viruses, yeasts and any toxic compound.
Step 3
The process of using Ultraviolet light disinfects prior to bottling.
Step 4
The Ozonation process ensures complete microorganism disinfection. Every 2 hours random inspections are carried out on all filtration processes to ensure absolute cleanliness.
Can the larvae come from insects planting eggs in the water when its sitting out for maximum a day or two or is it more likely coming from the water itself? Can larvae grow that fast in just a couple of days and should they even be able to live and grow in water that has been treated in this fashion? If thought reverse osmosis should remove all nutrients and minerals?
See the link for a short video. Sorry for low quality.
If this is mosquitoe larvae is there any health concerns drinking the water? Is the larvae bad to consume and does it indicate that the water itself could be bad?
Thank you for any help!
