In 20 trips to Belize, I've amassed a whooping 7 specimens of "large unscallped-hindwing" Opsiphanes. I and everyone else have called these all Opsiphanes tamarindi tamarindi. So now I'm not so sure. I think I do have that species and it is attached here as Opsiphanes 1. Perhaps this is indeed Opsiphanes tamarindi tamarindi?? FYI - that male was spotted dead on the road so I stopped and grabbed it! And these are the only two specimens I have that look like this species. But I also have something different that I'm calling Opsiphanes 2. Perhaps this is Opsiphanes cassiae castaneus. I have seen 3 other Opsiphanes in Belize - O. cassina fabricii (abundant), O. quiteria quirinus (pretty common), and O. boisduvalii (pretty rare). There are reports of Opsiphanes invirae as well, but I've looked at hundreds of small Opsiphanes over the years (e.g., O. cassina fabricii) and never seen this one. What do you think? John

Here again I draw a blank. Many many moons ago I saw a collection with a drawer of these. And I think it was in Virginia 1980's. I can see him but cannot put a name to him. He lived in Up State New York.
Sooner or later it will come to me.
