There have been continuing scammer ads, even though the administration changed the parameters for creating an account.
I believe that these scammers have thought ahead, and created multiple accounts in months, or perhaps a year in the past.
Quit using friends and family people! You cannot recover your money, it's called "friends and family" for a reason. Use it for people you know,
any other method is a risk beyond buying lottery tickets. There is an exception for certain countries, and the few individuals who don't have
a bank account, but I'd find it difficult to believe anyone in the USA couldn't manage a paypal account. Pay the extra 5%, and rest easy, if that's
what the seller wants, don't feel guilty about taking the safe road, being safe is nothing personal, I get paid from people I know who still use
goods and services, does it annoy me? Yes. Do I hold it against them? No.
I just read a bad trade post, and have some sympathy, but the suggestion that this site be linked to social media, hopefully isn't possible, I find the
suggestion linking Insectnet to something like Facebunk, is something I'd have trouble supporting.
These scammers are tricky, I have spoken with another member who was threatened for posting a warning ad, and describing the ways to avoid being scammed.
Report suspicious ads, I've recently reported Sonia McDowell, had having contact with another member who asked me how to spot a scam, and Sonia fit several
of the markers. I was emailed later and Sonia wanted the money sent to a second party using - of course, friends and family only, claiming the account could only
accept that method, well, that's bunk, anyone can be a seller on paypal.
Read the suggestions in the announcements section of the forum to protect yourself. Scammers prey on the unaware, and use our sense of commonality against
us, surely a fellow entomologist wouldn't rip me off... think twice, they're not your peers, they're after your money. Insectnet is not Amazon, or Ebay, it's trade
between people, and you're responsible for the decisions you make. I love this site, and my contact list and collection would be pretty sparse without it.
