https://www.instagram.com/p/B_gnv32BJTv7MIplYeGj2w93L2DZmrdkvZy74I0 Found this exoskeleton possibly being eaten by a lizard. The gold color is so vibrant and I think the head is included in one of the pictures. Found in Millican, TX. which is south of College Station, TX. The head piece and body are both approximately 1/2 inch long. Tip of my thumb is in one picture. Thanks for any leads on an ID. Love to see what this looks like whole. The link works on my end in a chrome browser. I added two links to the same pictures in a google drive. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

It is empty chrysalis of butterfly Euphydryas phaeton which already emerged from it. It is rather rare species in your area.

Awesome. Thank you. I see there are several similar species and subspecies. Not being a pro I feel like I see this butterfly around somewhat commonly. Sadly the butterfly didn't make it out of mine. It had been busted open presumably by a small lizard nearby.
