Hi, my friend has been getting covered in pretty nasty bites for the last few weeks and couldn't figure out why. It seemed to be happening when she was outside but last night she felt a bite while she was in bed and found a few of these imgur.com/gallery/cG2flgo in her bed. For some background info... The mattress was in storage for about a week while she moved house and was transported from the old house to the storage container in a (apparently) clean horse box π Also she is located in Scotland, UK. Thanks so much for any help, I'm not sure if the picture is much help but I know nothing about bugs, so hopefully these are common and someone can pass on some info π

Initially I thought bedbugs. But that isnt a bedbug... That seemed like the most obvious suggestion to me too but from what found, bed bugs are more oval and this seems to be quite narrow, right? Also from what I read, you can't really feel the bed bug bites, only feel the itch later. She says she can actually feel the bites happening sometimes and I've seen them, some of them are quite nasty looking.

The picture is of bad quality, hard to see details but it could be some sort of assassin bug.

Yeah, I think it's hard to get a picture of π I googled assassin bugs and it doesn't sound like that to me but I could be wrong. I have a small video of the bug moving that I could post. Hopefully it works and may be more help but it's still hard to see any kind of details. imgur.com/gallery/zGtMpHW

Greetings,
My strong suspicion is that you have fleas. The dorsal image and the movement look like a typical flea to me. Fleas will jump when disturbed, but in the fur of their animal hosts, they have that sinuous movement amongst the fur as in the video. The storage period in the "horse stall" may have been the point of infestation...

Glad to help... hope it isn't too difficult to get rid of them. I can't offer advice on that, but I'm sure there is plenty of info on eliminating them - they're certainly a common pest...
Cheers! Bandrow
