I pinned a moth on my spreading board last night and looked at it today. I discovered that the wings slid down and pressed against the some of the pins that held the paper down. Both of the forewings now have dents in them. The wings are not ripped or broken, just severely warped by pressing against the pins for a while. Is there any way to fix this, or is the damage irreversible?

Can you take a photograph and post the specimen on the spreading board?

Cossidae have very strong wing muscles and the forewings will drop again, what I do I insert the thinnest pin ( I have minuten pin 0.15mm) but you can also use regular insect pin #00 or #000 just below the main vain of forewing to hold them in place until dry. The pin hole won’t be visible. I ad that I use foam spreading boards so to insert such small pin is not a problem
