Those look like carpenter ants (Camponotus sp.) They make their colonies in dead or decaying wood. They bore into the wood but do not eat it like termites. They are great for breaking up downed trees in the forest but not so good if they attach the wood in your house. If you have a lot of fallen trees and dead wood around removing it would help but as the adult females (your photos) are winged they can still fly from other areas.
