My Luna moth eggs just hatched and I provided them with black walnut and pecan leaves. They don't appear to be eating anything, though. I'm not sure what to do and I'm worried about them starving.

Cover the box. Sometimes it helps to put Saturniidae caterpillars into the dark.

I've read that luna can have regional preferences, perhaps they'd take another foodplant if you've got one. Also, you could try cutting the leaves to allow the plant juices to entice the larva, or even lightly misting them could work. Good luck with them.

Are they eating now? Some caterpillars feed on the egg shell first, then will start feeding on leaves later. I can't recall what my lunas did.
