Hello everyone! I'm new here as I've searched a thousand terms on Google and not found any reference to what we saw today.
It appeared to be a large (1.5 inches roughly?) Dark red and brown smooth wasp like creature. No noticeable sound when it flew away. It also had a thin straight yellow coloured tail or needle (around half an inch long)
Unfortunately I didn't manage to grab a picture as I was mostly concerned with getting my child away from it if it was potentially harmful. It seemed a little dopey so that leads me to believe it's possibly not native.
We'd both love to know what we saw but like I said I've googled just about every description I could think of and found nothing that was remotely similar.
Thanks in advance 😊
