Hello, I’ve put a new chicken coop up in my garden today and it’s quickly attracted a large number of small black bugs. They are slow moving and 5mm or smaller. When disturbed they seem to behave in a way similar to lily beetles - allowing themselves to fall/tumble down a surface I’m wondering if you’re able to assist in identifying them so I know if they’re going to be a problem that means I’ll be best moving the coop. I won't say Paul K is wrong, but I see something different. The heavy antennae and those two parallel structures coming off the tail end remind me of an aphid. Could you get and post a more enlarged image of these critters so we can get a better look at them? Maybe knock one onto a piece of white paper as a background for better contrast? Also - immature roaches should be quick and agile and run when bothered - aphids are generally slow in motion.

Thanks both for the responses. I’m limited In photographic capability to what an iPhone can manage. I have taken another picture on a white background which is attached. The coop is directly below a tree line at the end of the garden so I’m wondering if this is the source of the bugs ibb.co/rMCqbfp |

Thanks - this is a much better image, and I'm convinced that is an aphid. All aphids are plant-feeders, so they might be falling off of foliage over the coop. I don't know of any that would be parasitic or harmful to animals or people. They feed by piercing the tissue of leaves and drawing out sap - and sometimes can be a nuisance by creating "honeydew" - the liquid that they expel as they feed - which can cause sticky messes under trees with big infestations.
You could search more on aphids on the web - there's a lot of info available out there...
