Hey, I’ve just discovered what is a massive (to me atleast) spider in my conservatory, I’d noticed this huge web that spans about 1.5 feet and decided to wait for the spider to pop out before destroying its house. But now I’m feeling like destroying my whole house with fire, because mother of god it’s terrifying looking 😂 I was wondering if anyone could ID this spider please? And advice on how to evict it without giving myself a cardiac arrest. Thanks so much ibb.co/3mKMdHy

Just to add as I realised my rambling first post probably isn’t helpful. It’s almost completely black with an odd pattern on its abdomen. It probably covers 1.5-2 cm maybe a bit more. I’m worrying that it may be a false widow, please tell me it’s not a false widow. 😂 Based in the Midlands UK.

A false widow is just that. Not a black widow. It's a creepy looking one though. Probably Theridiidae family, maybe Steatoda or Parasteatoda. Similar to another post today.
They are creepy looking, even to me, but harmless, unless you're fly sized. You did a good job with the pic, my spider book just covers the Pacific USA though.

I sympathize with spider aversion, tarantulas are one thing, but creepy fat spiders with pointy legs aren't my thing either. Insidious, virtually impossible to keep out of the house, cleanliness has no bearing on wayward spiders and crawlies, just like other unwanted guests, it's their job to find a niche. Night time is the best time to see the web maker, and a stealthy approach with a broom or vacuum...
