the leaf beetle does not keep its colours unfortunately so photos are the best way to 'capture' them...

Most of them do, and some of them don't. However, with the tortoise beetles, freezing them in envelopes with the data, will preserve the colors, or at least those genera that do lose their coloration. Much like dragonflies and damselflies in that regard. Jeff Prill
