Just found this little insect in my carpet. I live in Massachusetts and I'm totally ignorant about insects. Hopefully you can help me identify this new little friend:

I thought I posted an answer about an hour after you posted this. I guess I fumbled it and I've been away.
That is a flat bark beetle, family Silvanidae. Many are pests of stored grain, so it may be living in your kitchen.
It looks like Cathartosilvanus imbellis. Bugguide has a pic of one from MA:

I did find a few of them inside a bag of rice, which was stored next to flour. Looks like is time for a deep cleaning of the food cabinet. Thanks again!
