I'm in Manchester, England. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the underside however when I next find one I will make sure to take a photo and upload it

I am surprised that these could be what is biting you. Perhaps there is something else there that you don't see.
No need to take a photo of the underside now. I thought it might be a Dermestid (carpet) beetle larva but wasn't certain and wanted to see if it had sucking mouthparts or mandibles.

You are not being bitten by carpet beetle larva, or carpet beetles, unless you're a very different member than what we're used to. Maybe it's some allergic reaction to the larva, although they shouldn't be interested in attempting to consume you,typically, like the name, they live in organic fabrics and are pests of insect collections.
