I enjoy these. I do find that they fade over time in my collection.

A Kattydid. Bush Crickets. I have not seen one in years. Then again, I do not look for them.
Did I spell Kattydid correctly?

One area of my land gets inundated with juveniles each Summer. I'd like to someday collect the lichen looking ones from Central America.

I have always found getting "good" specimens of katydids (Tettigoniidae) which actually hold the better part of their "natural color" to be a 70/30 sort of deal... That is, 70% of the time they don't retain their colors but, for whatever reasons maybe 30% of the time they actually do ! I like the Tettigoniidae and with over 6400+ known species there is a lot to like about them --- especially the colorful winged or cryptic ones. Below, I offer up some pictures of some personally collected species/examples which HAVE surprisingly held their green color very well with little loss of color or natural appearance. Common True Katydid (Pterophylla camellifolia) Cone-headed Katydid (Neoconocephalus sp.) The 2nd picture is from summer 2019 but, it looks just as good now as when it was on the board ! When I have occasion to catch one of these fellows I keep them alive in a jar for a couple 2-3 days so that they clean their digestive tract (gut) out. Then I euthanize them, spread them, and hope for the best ! I've only got another 5 similar to these which have held up quite well however, I've also had another 10 or so that I've had to toss due to bad color loss or un-natural appearance. I think these are cool when they turn out well so, I'm happy that I can "share" them with you ! *As all of you know I spank out pictures whenever possible; makes every topic more captivating !
