if anyone can identify that, I'd be able to learn a lot from them. Your location is important. Many insects keep their wings safely undercover until they're ready to go. So many insects fit that description, from water scorpions to stick insects, mantids..

It looks to me like two crane flies or similar species mating.

It looks to me like two crane flies or similar species mating. I concur. An unusual sight for someone unfamiliar for sure. I was always getting unfathomable descriptions from Dad of bugs he'd seen fishing, or at work.
