Reason I ask is something such as S. diana would seemingly be easier to fake.

This must be genuine, as apart from the mosaic underside of the female forewing the abdomen is abnormal too.

Here is my current classification of Papilio memnon with photos of each ssp. I included a ventral male of many ssp. to show the difference. ... Really nice post Adam! To me ssp. lowii has been the nicest one visually, atleast when it comes to the males. BUT, now when i saw your picture of ssp. caeruleus, i was like "wow!". I dont know if its just because the picture quality is better on that photo, but the blue on those males are outstanding! Sort of reminds me of P. polymnestor. Thanks for posting all those pics! |

I am glad you enjoyed seeing the memnon subspecies. Indeed ssp. caeruleus is spectacular, I never get bored of opening that drawer. Unfortunately I don't have any females which are also beautiful, similar to babimemnon.

Ssp.caeruleus and babimemnon are my favourite too.
In fact I never have a chance to see them until Adam post them here, unless I saw the drawer once I visited Adam four years ago, but due to very large collection he has and material we went thru I don’t remember it.
Females are especially beautiful with the hint of blue on their hindwings.

I have seen three (3) Bilateral Grand gynandromorph of Speyeria diana. All three have appeared in Lep Soc publications. Two of them were reared and one was collected.

I suspect there may be a Proboards settings issue. Hopefully he can sort it out and you can post some interesting photos  Adam. |
