Pleas help me with the ID of the larvae from the photos (see Flickr link). I find these usually 1-2 inches underground, among the roots of various grasses and they are around 3/4 inch in lenght. flic.kr/s/aHsmUkFXcN

It is a fly larvae or pupae, probably a crane fly - Family Tipulidae. There are the long legged orange colored flies you often see in the Spring The larvae like moist or wet environments and feed on decaying vegetation. Will not cause you or your lawn any problems.
