Of course, finding these on your desk doesn't necessarily mean that you have an infestation - these could possibly just be some alates (the fertile adults that leave their colonies to establish new ones) that somehow ended up in your house (through an open window or door, maybe). This is the time of year when subterranean termites are swarming; in my area, there were millions of them in the air this weekend. Then again, you mentioned the presence of "dirt" along with them, which would seem to suggest that they might have dropped from the ceiling. Do you see any areas of your ceiling or walls that have "mud tubes" like these? -   |
