April 19, 2021 Crockett, TX I found three of them under a large pile of rocks. It's a Snail-eating Ground Beetle ( genus Scaphinotus), though I'm not sure which species it is.

Liklely from the subgenus Scaphinotus, elevatus group. Also likely Scaphinotus elevatus elevatus (Fabricius). Good staring point if not correct!

I too recognized this as one of the snail-eating carabids of the genus Scaphinotus but, could not possibly identify it any further with my limited selection of coleoptera books.
Wonderful species and close-up photograph !
Thanks for sharing.
