There were a LOT of these clumped together on my bedside table - on the wood, the top of my lamp, a book, a bottle. - I thought it was dust at first, but these were all bunched together. Together, they had a sort of tan-brown colour, and it was reminiscent of sand or sawdust, but I ruled out termites, or termite dust. My Mum then thought it was mold, but on closer inspection I noticed they were moving very slowly. They're off-white in colour, and tend to cluster together. They were clustered together on the lamp in this image when I first found them, so I thought it was dust; but this morning, I found they had dispersed hours after I'd moved the lamp to another location. I live in Wellington, New Zealand.

I live in Wellington, New Zealand. They look as if they're probably insects of the order Psocoptera (psocids). They're commonly called barklice or booklice (although, they're not actual "lice", and do not bite). Some species have wings, and others don't. They like warm, humid environments and feed on things like mold and mildew. They'll also chew on cardboard and other paper-based materials, especially if they become water-damaged - extension.umn.edu/product-and-houseplant-pests/psocids
