I love traveling and photography and have been stumped trying to ID this spider that I photographed on the Painted Canyon Trail in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western Wyoming last Sept. I don't remember what size it was other than that it was big. Based on the grass next to it, I'd guess at least 4" across.
The closest thing I have found was the marbled orbweaver here but my spider was much bigger that that. A friend thinks it's a dark fishing spider but I didn't see any that looked like my spider. It's such a neat looking spider, I'm surprised I can't find something that looks like it online.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
