Today during my quarterly visit to my local
Barnes & Noble bookstore I ran across a very
captivating naturalists read.
Here is the cover:
If like (myself) you have always been a "natural" at being
a naturalist -- since an early age; then I really think you too
will find this recent book quite nice and interesting.
Most of the book covers the Geologic time table from the early
Paleaozoic era (Silurian/Devonian periods) on up thru to our present.
It touches on many topics and offers many new insights and (I believe)
the latest theories as to how or why some great and well known creatures
have vanished and/or met their demise thru the ages.
The book also offers many wonderful photographs, fascial reconstructions
using forensics (of fossil humans), and some VERY well done two-page
spreads of some particular species of note.
Below, I show a truly deadpan ferocious appearing Dimetrodon featured
on one of the two-page spreads !
Near the end of this marvelous book several of nature's more
recent losses and/or endangered species are mentioned.
Naturally, I had to see if any insects would be mentioned.
Below, is the one notable item of mention...
So, if you have read the above caption then I am certain
it should rate as a fascinating and yet well written piece.
In any event the book only lists at $35.00
I think it's a pretty fair bargain all-n-all which will surely
appeal to all those who have a penchant for natural history !
