I'm not sure if anyone has come across these before, I certainly haven't. Over the past couple of days we've started to get one random one appearing mostly in the kitchen but today out in the hallway. We're in the North West of the UK if that helps narrow things down. They kind of look like wasps to me but with no stinger or wings that I can see and we always find them on their back. Size wise I would say on par with a typical wasp size. I've added a thumbnail below but clicking will take you to a much larger image.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It’s a beetle.

Maybe it's a beetle in family Carabidae, but difficult to be sure from an underside photo. I expect someone familiar with British beetles can give a better identification.
Adam.
