I live in southern NY and found a lot of these bugs in a plant I purchased from Home Depot. I am trying to identify it. I had already planted it before I noticed it.

They were probably feeding on the wood mulch mixed into the plant's potting mix. They won't harm the plant - they're only interested in the wood.

Thank you for the information! They are in at least one of the other bushes I purchased. I am concerned that they will get into my house since they are planted very close to the house. Do you think this could be a problem?

Do you think this could be a problem? If termites are likely to infest your house, chances are that it won't be through the soil that some plants came potted in. More likely, an infestation will happen in some other, unrelated way, totally at random.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate the quick reply. I was really upset when I saw these bugs and am feeling better about it now.
