Hi! I'm in Eastern Missouri, USA. Closest city is St. Louis. I'm a person who likes insects, but I have very little knowledge about them, and tonight in my laundry room I found an insect that looked huge to me on its back. I helped it outside where it fell again, unfortunately for the poor thing, but it did allow me time to research and gather some okay pictures! (US Quarter and MASTER brand bike lock key for comparison) (It has an injured leg and is missing half of one wing) [Also, sorry about the wack half-broken images, opening them doesn't work but right-clicking and opening in a new tab does!] After some internet digging, I think this thing might be a Broad-Necked Root Borer? Which is interesting to me because there's not much online about them? At least not to someone with my amount of knowledge. Wikipedia has only one big paragraph and other links just list identification, a diet of roots, and some vague ideas about life cycle. There's even a limit to the photos on Google! I could only find one image of a Broad-Necked Root Borer on its back, and it had a black stomach. The insect I found does not. Is this a Broad-necked Root Borer at all? Is it sick? Is it supposed to be here? (as in, in Missouri! I know it isn't supposed to be in my house lol), should I keep trying to find out how to send these photos to the Conservation Department? Any information would help a lot!! Thank you!

It's some sort of long horn beetle (family Cerambycidae). I am sure someone on your side of the world will be able to give you a better identification.
Adam.

Greetings,
Based on the number of antennomeres, this is Prionus imbricornis. The link provided by livingplanet3 is a good one...
Cheers! Bandrow
