Hey forum, I apologize but I'm srs not into entomology, although I do teach in STEMM. Let me be candid, I was kinda drinking and kinda letting my dog off leash in my backyard in Wisconsin. Used my flashlight to check out where my dog was headed and then captured this: First, before you view the video, this is what I feel. All feelings are valid right? I feel this is a billion mutant aliens that I am inhaling and likely not exhaling. Philosophically speaking, if I had never taken this video, perhaps none of these billions of things were in existence and my track record of never ingesting a bug after 46 years remains intact. However, there is an alternate reality. Which would be the actual reality. So, I ask, WTF are these things, how many have I inhaled, is this normal, and again, WTF. streamable.com/ljksegRespectfully, Me.

No idea what they are, maybe tiny Diptera (flies) or Hymenoptera (wasps), but they are almost certainly not everywhere in the air in such high density, and you won't be breathing them in.
What is happening is these tiny insects see your torch and are attracted to the light, so they are swarming in the light right next to the torch. Elsewhere they will not be present in such high density.
Adam.

I've often seen this same thing at night in the light of a strong flashlight beam; it's pollen moving with the air current -

I've often seen this same thing at night in the light of a strong flashlight beam; it's pollen moving with the air current - This is amazing response. I am now curious as to how pollen gives me the perception that it seems to be following the light. That being said, if something like pollen has very little weight, perhaps my movements are the cause of the perceived "insects" as the pollen is reacting to my distortion of the air. I really appreciate everyone helping me out. It can be very difficult to be a "newbie" anywhere and if you don't think so, trying editing Wikipedia or worse, posting on Reddit, haha. I think I want to stick around here. Entomology was a class I took as an elective. Seriously. I still have nightmares about traumatic insemination and well, the praying mantis. Thanks to everyone!

Fooled me too, high pollen count is not something we get here in Thailand so I have never seen it before. When I was a boy in the UK I used to suffer from hay fever, but I don't get that here at all. depreciated, Please do stay around and feel free to either comment or ask questions. Adam.

This is how massive the pollen release from a pine tree can be -

Not sure why it couldn't be just dust or other suspended particulates. I've seen the same in dusty conditions at night with a flashlight. Odd that the motion seems random at fist and then directional from lower right to upper left in the video. Perhaps due to the disturbance of air by the original poster as suggested.
