Has anyone raised cybele in captivity? I was reading life history, and it doesn't sound very simple. Or maybe it is.
I've got my wild female, and I assume it's gravid, before I dispatch it, I'd like to at least try rearing them.

I know there are entire articles on the subject. I’ve read them but can’t recall source. I’am sure others here will know . Always seemed to me getting and raising the correct violet variety was a challenge.

They eat a lot. Hard to rear more than a few unless you also have a large patch of the food plant.

I suppose food plant might be an issue. Things were dry where I collected the female, there were males every where, but I only saw the one, or possibly another female all afternoon. I didn't see any violet, but they must have been nearby somewhere, probably not in bloom though.
Well, I guess a google search might turn up something.
20 minutes later... well, that was interesting. I found out what I wanted to know. It isn't easy, but there are techniques for overwintering the unfed 1rst instar larva, as well as breaking their cycle and going at it lab style. I'll give the former a try. Violet species wasn't addressed, and may not be a major issue. We have a native nursery here, so that's the next stop.
