Hello!
I'm a little stumped by the guy above, here. I'm thinking maybe some type of furniture or wood-boring beetle? The marking is tripping me up, though- I can find a lot of species that look basically like this, but none of them have this little mark. They seem to like the vent in the room we keep finding them in, and they bite. We live in North Texas, in the DFW area. We think maybe they moved in along with a piece of furniture from an Ikea warehouse because the timeline would seem to match, but not positive.
Any and all help identifying this guy would be so welcome and appreciated, and thank you so much in advance!!

It's a click beetle of the genus Aeolus - bugguide.net/node/view/12607It's a native species. I'm in North TX too, and have seen them before. Not likely to have come in with furniture, as the larvae live in soil, not wood.

What we thought was "biting" was probably their defense mechanism, one just happened to do it on my roommate's leg and the feeling of the little flick was probably mistaken for a bite. The fact that their appearance coincided with the arrival of some furniture from Ikea seems to be a total coincidence- we now definitely think they're just getting in from outdoors. Thank you so much again!!!
