Hey insectnet forum, I've found a bug that I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet, would you help me? Here's a poorly done drawing of it, it probably isn't extremely accurate as I've only seen the bug twice however I drew it right after seeing it for a second time. I saw it once at a natural prairie park, it was about the length of a pea, and then again inside my home.. but this time it was smaller than a grain of rice. Both times it was on my skin. The unshaded parts were whitish yellow, and the shaded was black. I can't remember how many legs it had but the feature that stood out to me the most was that it had long, thin mandibles (at least as thin as hair). The way its body was shaped was also unusual to me, it moved around almost like a snake. The only guess I have is that it's some kind of larvae? The larger one I found on my leg, and I only noticed him because he had his mandibles chomped into my skin.. unprovoked? Now I'm thinking there was some way he was pulling blood because after i got him off my leg there was a painful and very itchy red bump left behind.. similar to a mosquito or other blood sucking insects.

It appears to be a lacewing larva - bugguide.net/node/view/1233170I've been bitten by them a few times as well. They normally prey on small insects such as aphids, though - biting people isn't typical for them.

Thanks a bunch. <3 I'm pretty shocked they don't usually bite people, since I wasn't even moving my leg or anything. Finally my hunt to find out what this lil' guy is can end.. who knew all I had to do was hop on a forum. ...My drawing was a lot less accurate than I previously thought. Lol.
