My wife claims it is an addiction. I Know and believe that it is the most intriguing, entertaining and without a doubt the most amazing hobby anyone can have. Did I say that right? It's a better addiction than drugs. lol

Hello Leroy I sent email to you couple of days ago in regards Sesiidae lures. No rush Sir, when ever you have time in between traps and Waffle House, just want to make sure you received an email. Paul You can also check out Great Lakes IPM for their list of lures. Will be ordering some around february. When do sesiids normally come out? Spring or early summer?

Hello Alan, I'm not far away, near Penrith. My main interest is Australian butterflies, but I've also collected in the Solomons. I also collect other genera (Papilionidae, Delias etc) through trade, from around the world. You may be interested to hear that back around 1990 I discovered a small colony of Hypochrysops cyane in our local park. I was unable to find it's larval food plant, Angophora costata anywhere in the area. After many days of lying on my back searching the trees with a pair of binoculars I eventually spotted a female laying eggs. This proved to be a new food plant, Eucalyptus moluccana, which I duly published. I reared quite a few specimens from eggs and found that they were quite happy with several other food plants I gave them (unpublished). The colony survived in a series of boom or bust years (mostly bust with only a very few individuals seen) for many years. I haven't searched for it for at least 3 years now, so I can't be sure the colony is still there. Other interesting Lycaenids I have found locally include 3 species of Acrodipsas on the same hill top in the Blue Mountains. A aurata, A brisbanensis and A myrmecophila. I also have bands on Casuarinas along the Nepean River which sometimes produce Ogyris amaryllis. On one occasion only I found 2 larvae of Ogyris ianthis under bands on mistletoe trees in Galston. From these I reared 2 females. I have also reared O genoveva, O abrota and O olane in the Sydney area. Hypochrysops including several rows of cyane View Attachment Ogyris including amaryllis and 2 female ianthis View Attachment Ogyris genoveva gela View AttachmentDavid Hall. I am jealous! lol I love the Australian fauna, but I figured it be hard to go down there and collect, or trade with any local collectors. I really enjoyed the Ogyris genoveva.

I am a person of opportunity. The only reason I find cocoons, I am always looking. I really have no need to collect them. Anymore I am also looking for hibernacula in the winter. I walk fence lines in farmers fields and in many rural locations. Along with hibernacula, I find cocoons, mostly Promethea and occasionally an Angulifera or two. Most of the cocoons I find and collect I usually give them away. The hibernacula are for Asterocampa, Limenitis and moths. Most of the moths are Micro's and occasionally a noctuid or Erebedia. I just like to get out and get among them!! And besides, I am retired. After a hard day in the field, I come home to Mommas Chicken and dumplings, Corn Bread and sweet cream butter. And after a nice lunch, a little nap with Momma and the Kitties. Did I mention I am retired? I wouldn't mind some angulifera, promethea, and cecropia cocoons if you found them. I am especially in need of females as I want to try these for H. euryalus and gloveri in my area. Let me know if this is possible. Thank you.

Does anyone know what happened with Ted MacRae from Chesterfield, MO? We agreed to exchange the material of Buprestidae and Cerambycidae. He received the material from me on October 15 and since then he does not answer my emails and I have not received anything of the promised beetles. Being that the holiday season here is crazy, he might just be busy and catching up with family and work.

Yes I agree. She has still not replied to my email asking her from what part of Nigeria these overwintering Iris pupae came from. Maybe she needs to be taught a lesson in that cheating people out of their hard earned money comes with a price. I'd say make up some fake western union/moneygram slips, and have "her" go try and pick up said money. To sweeten the "deal", aim high so that they can think one is gullible. After a couple of fruitless, and expensive(time and monetary), they will give up.

I respect others opinions and beleifs.I have not criticized others opinions and beliefs with the exception of Big Foot. So, I will no longer participate in this topic. Each of us must chose our beliefs and I will respect them. I will also not respond to PM's or emails. I have a family that I love, a passion to pursue, Lepidoptera, and a retirement to enjoy. I will just leave be. You are entitled to your opinions. Doesn't mean that because you like trump or agree with his none sense that I will think less of you or treat you like garbage. I respect your knowledge first and foremost. You have contributed to my knowledge regarding moths, and I have a lot to learn yet. I do look forward to your posts regarding winter moth hunting.

We are getting some in the Sierra Nevada at the moment. Looks like another big storm is heading this way this evening. I wonder how the areas that burned in the Paradise, California area will take these rains, though the rain beetles should be out and about now in the western part of the mountains.

Aside from light trapping, what other way can you get winter moths? Can you set out baits for them as well, and how long are they out and about for?

This topic is pointless. Your believes and morals are based on church which by the way forbids all kind of birth controls. Those theories/rules/morals were created by people who never have families to worry about and they had/have absolutely no experience and no clues about reality of live. There was an interest in those hundreds of years ago, more people, more founds for church hierarchy, better and easer live for priests, bishops and all others who were closed to big table. It is continued to this day. The only deference between now and then we have almost 8 billion of humans instead of less than one. We have eliminated natural selection in many cases by using of advance medicine. We thrown our species out of balance polluting the earth. The abortion was, is and will be either way if is legal or illegal. The only problem if it is illigal it’s performed under the table often with the risk of serious complications to the patient. I’m personally believe it should be the last resource used to terminate pregnancy in case other methods feiled and one runs out of other options. I wish you and every young man and women that you would never have to reach out to this last resource but for many of you live will be not so ideal in pink colours as you dream of and no one should be judged or be called murderer because we all do make mistakes. And yet you are not defending your position. I made it clear how abortion is murder and you have no response but to say that it will happen anyway. So you are saying it is a bad thing? or no? Why not legalizes suicide and any type of killing? This topic is not pointless! If overpopulation is all you care about then why aren't you rejoicing at every mass shooting? I am not sure what your last sentence means but of course we all make mistakes and this is not about blaming those who have abortions, it's about saving the lives of innocent human beings. i am not making this into a moral issue, it is scientific. If you believe that all humans have a right to live, then you should realize that abortion takes away that right. Tim To an extent, it is very pointless! Reason why, because if you take the dogmatic religious aspect about how life is precious, and then try to push it to the masses to stop people from doing abortions, and try to force the governments to shoot laws down because it doesn't coincide with their views. On the other hand, Abortion should be allowed, and it's the womans right, and yada, yada, yada. The simple solution to this would be to just let people do what they will, and not butt in. I don't think abortion is good, but who the hell am I to judge someone who does it? That should weigh on whoever is doing it conscience. Aside from that, We shouldn't be bickering over this issue. Same with guns. If someone wants to own guns, let them have at it. I have one, and I am sure many of the Americans on here do to. With that said, I don't believe that "Obama is coming after all our guns", nor the liberals, nor anyone for that matter. Do I believe that there should be strict measures to keep them away from someone with mental illness or issues? Yes. There should be checks and balances as to who should be able to own a piece of equipment that can be used to murder someone. If one is following the rules, then leave them be. We have the right to defend our properties, and our families.

Actions speak louder than words. Trump can be abrasive to say the least but he is willing to stand up for this country. I don't agree with everything he does but what I do agree with is we need to fix this country. Why are we having all the mass shootings? Some say take away the guns and that will solve the problem. It won't. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. I agree with fixing this country, but Trump and his cronies are not really going to be answer to this. A lot of the issues that are going on are beyond Trump. Plus, the whole gun control=taking all our guns bickering will never cease. To be honest, I have given up on this country with the rhetoric that is being pushed. Last week, I had some trump supporter lady call me a spic at a dinner. Being the gruff army veteran, I told her to go f$%k herself. She didn't like that one bit, which I don't care about as if you make a bad decision, there will be consequences, and that was the consequence she got. I have a 9 mm Glock at the moment, and am on the market for a rifle, but I am more concerned that it this keeps up, one of these days, I will have to defend my family against morons such as that lady. Now, that doesn't mean I think ALL trump supporters are racist idiots, but unfortunately, that camp has a lot of that going on. If I wanted someone to "Get it done", I would rather vote for Emperor Palpatine, as he got rid of the Jedi, and made an Empire from the Republic.

People on here, primarily in the Trump camp, seem to forget that it's not just "liberals" who dislike him. A lot of independents, republicans, and libertarians think he is a joke. Now, after the dems took the house, and his hissy fit with France, after he decided to go over there and "Honor" the men who laid their lives in foreign soil so that people can freely express themselves here, decided that he would rather sulk and act like a toddler. His petty actions are enough for me not to believe in the GOP, nor take the prez seriously at all. At this point, all he seems like he is, is a petulant rich child sulking and taking out his frustrations on twitter, with some rather comedic results. Good for a laugh or two at least.

If you find Hemileuca in oak woodland, you have H. maia. If you find then on willow, then you have nevadensis, which is widespread farther north.

Hi Ben. Waiting on the next big rain storm to come. All the early ones have come out, so I figure the next big storm will bring the next batch out. Are you still living in the Bay Area?
