Hello, I found these roaches in my back yard and would like to confirm what species they are. I think that the tan one is a Virginia wood roach,Parcoblatta virginica, but am not positive. I see them on my front porch attracted to lights and also a lot of them are attracted to my blacklight when I put it out. I think the small dark brown one is maybe a female Virginia wood roach? But I am not sure. The larger dark one was found in a pitfall trap, and also a few were attracted to the blacklight. I don't know what it is, is it an adult female Virginia wood roach? Or a different species of wood roach? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. They were found in Maryland.

Ok so this isn't exactly an insect, but my flightless fruitflies have been infected with what I think are nematodes? but I have no idea how they got there or if they are dangerous or not. Has anyone ever heard of or had problems with nematodes as parasites in their fruit fly cultures? The nematodes are very small, clear and move like a snake along the plastic sides of the jar the flies are in. Also I found these strange looking oval shaped things with spikes? which I think are egg cases maybe or something? not sure. Anyone have any ideas? I used a microscope to get the pictures. I live in Maryland if that helps at all in identification.

What are these little beetles? they look like ticks, but obviously are not ticks. They are eating the leaf in the picture and there were tons of them eating the tree they were on. Please help identify them, thanks! Click the picture to see it larger. Location, Maryland. Attachments:

ok so what is your setup like? I was planning on putting the crickets in a large plastic critter cage and putting egg cartons inside for cover. Then i am not sure what to do with the material for eggs, I was maybe going to put a container in the cage with dirt or something like that. What do you do? Of course the dirt needs to stay moist so i will spray it with water, how would I know if eggs are in it though? and once there are eggs is it best to remove the small container with eggs and put it into a different cage? also how much water do crickets need? I always have problems with this, i either give them too much or too little. What is the best way to give crickets the right amount of water? I don't like putting a shallow dish with water because i am afraid they will drown. Thanks for any help.

Hi,I am looking for a more continuous supply of food for my praying mantises. I want to try and breed feeder crickets, I have kept breeder crickets for years and not had any success in getting the eggs to hatch. I am pretty sure it is because I don't give them enough heat. Can someone please point me in the right direction on getting feeder crickets to breed? Like what are the steps and necessary things they need? Thank you.

I have some parsley in my yard and some black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars are eating it, one of them has made a pupa nearby so I am wondering how long does it take for them to emerge? it just pupated yesterday so does anyone have an estimate of the time?

I keep finding beetles like this on my front door attracted to the lights there. The beetle makes a noise when I pick it up, which was surprising to me because the only other beetle I know to make noises like that are bess bugs. I think it is a long horned beetle possibly, anyone know what it might be? " alt=" "] " alt=" "]

ok so it is not a moth, I am not very good at identifying Lepidoptera yet. Location is Maryland I have no idea what the plant is though. I think it is a small bushy tree of some sort.
