Hi Everyone, Thank you for helping with bug identification. If you could please let me know if this is a bed bug that would be great. I found it crawling on top of my desk this morning at 8:00 AM, and it somewhat matches pictures which is freaking me out. Our bedroom is about 12 feet away from the office where the desk is. Location: Manhattan, Kansas, USA Other Pictures (Zoom-in): ibb.co/q0MypN0ibb.co/dPwn4hPibb.co/vCNkFbDibb.co/jbywQ5tThank you! P.S. Are there any options for remediating this issue if it is a bedbug? Our daughter has medical issues that prevent the use of bug sprays. Don't shoot the messenger but it is a bed bug. You can find a lot of information on their biology, detection and management at Department of Entomology and Univ. Extension web sites such as this one where you are. I would start there. bookstore.ksre.ksu.edu/pubs/mf2926.pdf

Many scopes allow you to have it either way. You can rotate the whole head unit with the eye pieces 180 degrees in the cradle so it faces the other way. This looks to be the case in the second AmScope shown because of the small knob in front above the ring light to hold the unit in place..

I suppose most people see what we do as artistic, while we don’t think of that aspect. From an earlier post: Follow the link below to a Google photo album of the Exquisite Creatures exhibit by Christopher Marley currently at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland. He started with insect mosaic pieces and has since branched out into vertebrates, crustaceans, shells etc. The specimens, their preservation and presentation are truly remarkable. See for yourself. photos.app.goo.gl/con2YitS17i77REM9

The person named in the story is a professional entomologist Freydek-Mistek. Are they the same person? Also, Google Chrome gives you the option to translate a web site in a foreign language.

I looked and apparently you can't use Google Photos to post an image to a forum using BBcode so I uploaded some to Imgur. The photos I posted were original size. Do you recommend photos be resized using the Auto Resize option before getting a BBcode link? Thanks again for any assistance.

I have very recently preserved an Uca panacea, and it is the first crab that I have preserved. I took the flesh out from all parts of its body and glued the exoskeleton back together, but I am worried that it will change color because of its dryness. Is color change something to worry about on crab specimens, or will the color just stay on? Thanks in advance. Here are a few crab and other Crustacea images from the exhibit, Exquisite Creatures, currently at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. I don't know how they were preserved and it looks some may be deep sea creatures where color is often pale at best.

Has anyone had success embedding images from Google Photos in a forum post using Bb code? Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

According to the auction description, it's the collection of Mr. Dupont, an apparently common surname, but don't know anything about him. Anybody?

Does it have to be Imgur.com or can you use any photo-hosting web site like Google Photos, as long as you can copy and paste the image address link? I'm not familiar with "BBCode (message board and forums)". Is that specific to Imgur? Thanks for any assistance.

It would help to know if it's a general collection of Coleoptera or do you specialize in certain group(s) or region? Do all specimens have locality data? A photo of a drawer or two would also be informative.

They can't even get their name straight. In one place it says Bug Shippers USA and another Bug Shopers USA (misspelled).

Any dirty or moldy specimens can be easily cleaned using a 1:1 solution of plain ammonia and water. Best to do when the specimen is relaxed before mounting. I place the specimen in a small dish filled with the ammonia and water and gently go over the entire surface with a small paintbrush. You'll be amazed at how much dirt and debris comes off an even clean looking specimen. I also use the 1:1 ammonia to water solution to relax specimens.

I know researchers who have done entomological fieldwork a number of years ago in Indonesia including those mentioned in the article. They said the red tape/bureaucracy was bad then. I can't imagine with this new law how it is now.
