All right fellas, I know there are a number of enthusiasts here who have a strong passion for Saturniidae.
Many have either bred (this or that) or have a desire to see something of someone else's (outside of having seen it in a book).
So, let's pull together and try to show some of our nice "pieces" from our collections. Weather it be a single example or an entire drawer; it is sure to strike up conversation about these grand moths.
I will work to post some pics (here and there) of things I have acquired; though they will likely be "pale" in comparison to what others may have.
I have seen some wonderful things posted on many past older threads however, I think this is a subject which should be readdressed since we have many new members here and still others who have not seen certain things in years...

Wow, those are really fantastic specimens and photographs !
I doubt my pictures will look quite that good but, I will certainly add what I can wherever possible...
If you happen to have any more to show it would be very nice to see them; as the clarity and presentation of your pictures is phenomenal.
Do you still retain all of these specimens ?

Thank you trehopr1! I have sold some of these specimens but not all of them. I wish now I hadn't sold any but there was a time approx. 10 years ago when I had decided to pretty much get out of the hobby and I sold a lot of things. In the end I just couldn't give up the insects and got back into it but not nearly as big as I had before. I will post a few more photos but I do hope others join in as well! Again these are older photos and some not great (especially after reducing them so they aren't gigantic for the forum!) but I'm happy you enjoy them! Neocarnegia basirei Pair Rhodinia species Male Heniocha dyops Male Arsenura rebeli Pair - huge species! Eacles penelope? Pair Caligula zuleika Pair - poor photo but these are a gorgeous species

My Saturniid goodies are spread out over numerous drawers. So, a lot of single pictures from me. I have acquired mine from various means. Some I have "wild collected" and have been lucky to get some pretty nice ones. Others have been cocoon emergences from either those I've found OR some of which have been purchased. Still, others I have paid a price to secure from breeders I've heard about. Lastly, some have been achieved from old collections being parted out. So, here are some for starters... Copiopteryx derceto (Brazil, Joinville, 1973) Rothschildia orizaba (Mexico, Morelia, 1977) Philosamia cynthia ricini (Poland, bred, 2014) Leopa oberthuri (China, 2014) Rothschildia jacobae (Brazil, Santa Catarina, 1975) Dirphia lasiocampina (Mexico, Chiapas, 1978) Graellsia isabellae (Spain, Castile, 1930) Rothschildia sp. (Mexico, Amis, 1904) Automeris io abb. (black eyes) (Illinois, River Grove, 1932) Hemileuca sp. (California, L.A. Co., 1951) Argema mimosae (Kenya, bred, 2018) Most of my specimens have specific dates but, a few have only the (month) of the given year. Many more to come...

That is a beautiful self-caught specimen of that species Paul.
I have always liked that species and a good friend of mine actually caught a (pair) of them while in Ecuador many years ago.
I can post a picture of the female if you would like to see it.
One can readily see how that cryptic coloration would allow such a large moth to easily blend in with rainforest vegetation or even on lichen covered bark.

I did not collect one. Females are usually much less encountered at light sheet than males. This species is not as common as other in Amazon (at least in French part of it ) so I was very happy to find one on my sheet.

Here is yet another superb drawer of Saturniidae submitted this afternoon by (58chevy) ! Dave, I haven't got anything like these. Truly superb colors and variety... They look like subfamily Ceratocampinae. Could you elaborate on the genus ?
