Couldn't this just be water applied to blue shiny scales ? It looks like my Lycaenidae that I constantly screw up by putting too much water close to them

I am not surprised that you never got bromius female. Even if I have about 400 set specimens of the nireus group in my own collection (plus many still in paper), I have only 1 female of nominotypical subspecies and 1 female of ssp. chrapkowskoides, while I have several nireus females, for example.

Congrats Rich, Very nice females. But situation is more complicated. At least as far as my very limited knowledge. At first Papilio bromius was replaced with Papilio chrapkowskoides. Then Ugandian race is Papilio chrapkowskoides ssp.chrapkowskoides / previous bromius ssp.chrapkowskoides /. Previous P.bromius bromius is now P.chrapkowskoides nurettini . Ugandian race "chrapkowskoides" is somewhat middle between "nurettini" and another species Papilio chrapkowskii If you look to your photo with 3 females on it, you can see especially lower two are very similar to female specimen of P.chrapkowskii pictured in Kielland´s Butterflies of Tanzania. As for presence of P.chrapkowskii in Uganda I read various opinions, but I have some from Mt.Napak and probably occurs in various parts of Uganda. So maybe some of your ugandian "bromius" are P.chrapkowskoides / =bromius / and some maybe P.chrapkowskii. .... and do not forget about females of P.sosia which are determinable only by genitals as far as I know and of course are also present in Uganda with ssp.debilis. This is ssp. pulchra / CAR, Congo / - abdomen used for determination. projects.bebif.be/enbi/albertinerift/butterfly/picture?id=1488&sex=female&orientation=rectoRich, if you know some good article about nireus-group I will welcome any information. BTW never saw P.chitondensis . Can anybody upload photo ? Please .... And african Papilios are still confusing .... Papilio bacelarae ? redalyc.uaemex.mx/redalyc/pdf/455/45515238010.pdfJan
