The first transaction (bait) went smoothly. I paid and received the specimen I had ordered. The second one, for a much higher amount, went very wrong. I paid and never received the specimens. Some excuses at the beginning and then silence and no reply to my messages. Should he make the transaction good, I will rectify this thread accordingly

David Albaugh is an associate of Mark Schenk, who has 'history'. I exchanged some specimens with David many years ago and remember that I had to send the parcel to Mark, as he had the import permits, but should say that the exchange went well and I had no problems with him then.

I also had problem with him. A graphium auriger sold as female .... but the abdomen was glued ! I didn't accept the deal and he resent the money. The problem was that I asked him before sending to verify the abdomen (as I had a doubt on the photo that the specimen being a female) and he assured that this was not glued. As he was a supposed expert in Papilionidae (he proposed excellent and rare species), I respected his first expertise ! A non-expert that doesn't verify himself, had probably not seen this (well done) glued abdomen!

If you send money via paypal, and he does not pay, they will take the money back for you.

If you send no payment at all up front, you will save a step with having to deal with paypal.

Hi. This is David Albaugh. I had a police detective contact me today about a transaction that was never completed. Could you let me know what the specimen was and how much it was for? Unfortunately I made the mistake of helping a "friend" out with selling off some of his specimens (that would be the Marc Schenck also mentioned in this forum). I thought I was helping him and in return I would get a percentage of the sale. Little did I know, which I just found out about, Marc is in fact a dishonest trader and no one would buy from him so he asked my assistance because I had a good name. I wrongly assumed that he would follow through with all transactions and now I cannot even get ahold of Marc to find out what he did and why he handled things the way he did.
What can I do to make this right for you? I do not have access to the specimens as that was all Marc.
Please e-mail me at bugguy01@cox.net to let me know.
David Albaugh

David,
So you are a victim, like me !!?? If so why did you not answer my messages of 8 months ago ?? If so, why did you wait until the police, which I contacted, came to you to come clean ?? You could have done so by replying my first thread. I am sending you an e-mail but I will not drop the case until a full refund is made.

I never contacted you because I was unaware of this complaint. What e-mail did you use? I have two e-mails, the one I gave you earlier and the MSN one I use for PayPal, neither of which had anything from you. I just happened to find this on the forum by chance after being contacted by the detective as I never even read these forums. I was in shock, to say the least, when I was contacted by the detective and told him I would look into it, which I did, which is how I found this post. If you had filed a complaint with PayPal, they would've made me aware of it right away and frozen that dollar amount until the situation was rectified. I have sent you the refund and again, I apologize for this. I have also found Marc Schenck and will be dealing with him on my own, to get the dollar amount from him, that I refunded you.

Business owners are often so busy that they cannot search the web for comments. I am happy to see that this was resolved. PayPal is really good about not giving a seller money when there is a dispute. On the other hand, they charge a lot.

It should also be noted that only logged-in Insectnet members can read the trading reports forum, so a web search would not turn up the complaints anyway. Well done David for coming on here to explain the problem, and reimbursing the customer. I hope that you get the money back from Mark too. Adam.

Should he make the transaction good, I will rectify this thread accordingly Maybe it would be a good idea to modify the subject line of the thread as well, at least put a ? at the end perhaps, if not change it in another way. If you change it to reflect the current situation someone who only reads the subject line won't automatically assume he is dishonest. Only you can do this, papillon, as the originator of the thread. Adam.
