Last year I sent a package to Vinicio Salami of Italy in an exchange. He had various excuses for not sending a package right away. Then he decided he would wait for mine to arrive before he sent anything. Then he said the package must have not cleared customs and it would be returned to me. A year later, still nothing. Same old salami I suppose.

It's not being paranoid to have some doubt about some one bearing a such name ... M. Salami in Italy, M. Chorizo in Spain, M. Saucisson in France, M. Sausage in UK, M. Chichirones in Mexico ....

Are you sure that he didn't just use some other e-mail addresses he set up to send you some references?
Adam.

He is a great Carabid specialist, well known in Europe, a good old man in every way !!! If he says that it was returned, then it was returned.
Judge someone depending his name is totally disrespectful and plain stupid !

Not that well known in Europe, I've collected in Europe for 30 years and this is the first time I've heard his name, doesn't mean he doesn't exist as I'm a butterfly collector not carabid. More and more parcels are getting stopped coming into the U.K so the same could be true with the rest of Europe, but I'm usually contacted and told the reason for them being held up, I've never had one confiscated or returned to the seller, it's usually because there's no invoice or list of species included and they need full names not abbreviations or just the species initial. A year though is pushing it a bit, by about 9-10 months, I think 8 weeks is plenty of time to get everything sorted.

Rich there are some thousands entomologist How can you know all including the fact that many are not on the net or on social networks. such affairs must be first discuss between protagonists (it seems there are more and more people using the site to try to solve their personal problems). There is a more appropriate board under "Insect trading reports"

Agree with Thierry !
Italy` s custom control is pretty strict and what is coming from out of the EU is checked.
" Collecting " from the net 30 years and do a real collecting for 50 years as he does is not the same. Probably that`s why you don`t know him.
As I said, he is a great old man, well known in Europe ( not Britain which is not part of Europe they say ), did a lot of good job with Carabids.
His English is 0 . He uses only google translator for communication, so maybe there can be a problem.
"""Last year I sent a package to Vinicio Salami of Italy in an exchange.""" - every package can be traced down. This should be done first and not naming someone...Do you have a receipt of posting ?

Got an reply from Vinicio. """
As I thought. No tracking number provided, no receipt of shipping provided
Todd, I require this will be deleted as soon as possible or legal action will be taken, unless you will provide some proof, that the packet was sent or that the claim from your post office was made and the result is, that it was picked up by him ! Blacknaming anyone without proof is against the law !

Especially when you send a parcel to Italy, always use registered mail. Some parcels disappear sometimes...

Thank you for sending Salami's very passionate response. It is more useful to me than you can properly imagine!
