Not sure it will keep the Winter Blahs at bay, but maybe of interest. From the Kira Kira area, San Christobal, Solomon Islands.

bugboys3 the last specimen on the right in the third row from the top, is that a Parnassius mnemosyne goshkoi? It is P. mnemosyne. I am not sure of the subspecies. The data on it is Mazorsky ridge 10km East of Sangvor village, NW Pamir, Tajikistan.

That should be ssp. bucharana Pagenstecher, 1911.
As far as I know the name "goshkoi" does not exist as a published name, but perhaps I don't have a record of it. If so please post the citation for me.
Adam.

Ah, thanks for enlightening me. That's the problem with names described in books, unless you have a copy it's not really accessible. It is much better to describe new taxa in journal publications rather than books. Lamas also has no record of this name either, so it's not only me who has missed it. I have volumes 1-5 of the Weiss series but haven't seen the last volume. Unfortunately I am not currently in a position to buy one.

Please can you tell us the type locality of Parnassius mnemosyne goshkoi, so at least we know where it comes from.
Adam.

I have to look it up once i am back home, will post it here end of the month, but I am sure radusho our expert knows it. I also saw it in the book “Parnassius mnemosyne” by Helmut Glasl, who just collected all published subspecies into one volume without questioning the validity of subspecies. He has nice distribution maps, and by looking at the distribution maps, it already helps to get a better understanding of the validity, as far as I remember from that map, goshkoi was in just a single location in Afghanistan near the chinese border, close by other subspecies localities, so perhaps not a valid subspecies.

Radovan kindly enlightened me, the type locality is "Tadjikistan, SW Pamir, Vakhanskiy range, Iskhashim city env., Kuhilal vill., 3000-3500 m." This is not the same locality as the specimen in the bugboys3 drawer, as that was from NW Pamir. Adam.

I was putting some bugs away last night, and pulled this Prepona drawer, which cheered me up on a snowy night. Probably 90% self collected from Belize, three of the unit trays represent all of the known specimens from Belize (Prepona aedon, Prepona amydon and Prepona diephile). john
