Recent additions from the recent UK fair, really pleased with the haul and spent very little.

The N. Italy specimen should be ssp. emisphyrus Verity, 1919 (type locality Firenze). Is this specimen smaller than normal gorganus?
The name bigenerata was originally introduced also in 1919 as a French nomen nudum, and certainly not from Italy, and was later described as a quadrinomial in 1947 (type locality Vendée).

Was wondering if there are any kind of restrictions in England regarding the sale of P. machaon brittanicus at fairs? Do dealers selling dead stock need to have certain permits or paperwork to prove their material is historic, or pre-protection law, or even bred material from eggs ? Over here in the U.S. there is fair of a sort held in California in May for both live and dead stock. I have been told by 2 dealers and at least 3 collectors that agents with F&W visit it every year (some undercover) with others displaying badges; looking over what is being sold and of coarse questioning some items. Has scared away a lot of folks.... Of coarse, if you happened to be selling anything protected or vulnerable from the U.S. (paperwork or not) you would very much regret that decision.

I doubt the British lep society would do anything dodgy so I would think the seller is pretty much covered on that score. Yes Adam it is smaller than gorganus, quite a bit so actually.

Seems fair to me, they are doing their job. Laws are there to be enforced. Of course, laws could be improved with a more accurate list, with a protection of amateur entomologists and so on. It would have scared away only people who don't respect the law... so very very few people.
