I thought it would be fun to hear what other hobbies you have. Insect collecting has slowly taken priority over all my other hobbies. My other hobbies include: Stamp collecting (U.S.) Juggling (Up to five balls, four rings or three clubs). I've also learned lots of tricks. Unicycling Remote control stuff (RC Sunfire Car) I've gotten into many other hobbies briefly but I always go back to bugs. Anyone else have the same hobby?

I think panzerman (not sure if he is still on this forum) collected coins and stamps too? I don’t think most people have time for more than 2-3 serious hobbies, unless you are relatively young or retired perhaps. Personally, I have an orchid collection, speed solve Rubik’s cubes, and tinker with my car.

I was planning to build large train layout but never really get to it. It is quite expansive hobby and needs a lot of space which I always lack even in my previous house. I still have some Diesel engines and cars, few tracks and buildings.
I had beautiful reef tank once too, but when I started travel a lot I had to sell all.
Now I only focus on Lepidoptera, that what I was programmed for 😉

I don’t think most people have time for more than 2-3 serious hobbies, . Is that why I don’t get enough sleep? I gotta run, have to remove snow from the roof, refinish boat brightwork, rig the Iceboats, put away all the Christmas decorations, get a Vickers MG lock on eBay, pick up sheet metal at the PO for another restoration, await some Canadian BREN Mk1 parts, get the WiFi extended installed, finish writing another book, load the relaxing container, prep for a trip to southern FL, and get the fish set up to spawn another generation. And work 12 hours a day. That’s this weeks list.

I'm just about a professional hobbyist. Along with collecting, my wife and I grow a greenhouse full of Cattleya orchids, and I play bass trombone in a jazz big band and in a couple of community concert bands. I used to collect stamps too, but that's fallen by the wayside since I ran out of affordable stamps to collect in the countries I was interested in (pre-1940 USA and Hawaii). And I spend a lot of time salt-water fishing on the coast of Georgia, too. Makes life interesting - My bug friends don't know any of the music or orchid friends, and vice-versa. Cheers, JH

Hey Tim,
No other real hobbies but love to travel. Sometimes with a net, sometimes without one. I love my job in conservation and restoration, and I've been able to fold bugs into the job to a fair degree. I go through phases where I burn out on both - but I always come back to the basics and for now that more than enough....

I kept snakes and tarantulas, but had to rehome them when I moved to Reno. Am saving up to get a house in the near future and hopefully have a bug/fish/snake room and a nice garden.

I used to collect stamps but when they went to the peel and stick stamps I quit. I still have the collection. A lot of first day covers and plate blocks. My bug collection is my biggest hobby. I also love working on my yard. I am currently taking care of my father's orchid collection when he is in Florida for the winter. I often send him pictures of what he is missing as it seems most of them flower in the fall and winter. I would love to see some of others orchids. They are beautiful flowers and not as hard to take care of as many people think.

I have some orchid pics on my phone. Can’t see a way to attach them to a reply though.
