Can you post a photograph of the Verso
Many many moons ago I acquired a large collection of papered Lepidoptera from South Vietnam. It is in one of my freezers, I think.

Very nice female, it is genus Cynitia, not Tanaecia.
This species does not occur in South Vietnam ( north to central Vietnam Quang Ngai Prov )

IT's from Ha Giang North Vietnam Females of Cynitia are drab brown with white markings usually and much smaller . I have Cynitia stellata and C. lepidea from Vietnam and both of those females are olive green with white spots and look nothing like that. The shape of the wings is also very different. i'm pretty sure this is a male of a larger Tanaecia species and it was sold to me as Tanaecia whiteheadi so there must be a picture in one of these Vietnam books .It's similar in size and shape to Tanaecia howarthi or T.calliphorus The only reference I can find of it is an illustration here archive.org/stream/proceedingsofgen00scie#page/508/mode/1upthis is the verso

It is Cynitia whiteheadi whiteheadi - female. We have this species also in central Laos but quite rare, it is though different subspecies than yours from N. Vietnam. I will post photos when I get to my laptop.

This is the picture taken from Butterflies of Laos publication. This is the subspecies esmeralda described recently (2014) by Saito and Yutaka Inayoshi which seems to occur only in Laos I don't have this species in my collection.

After looking at the photograph of the species and the price, is it that rare or just due to the fact it from Vietnam?

I keep seeing butterflies from Vietnam I've never seen before offered or even pictured on the internet. But it doesn't mean the price will go high for some reason. In my experience it's not the type of species that triggers bidding wars. Another example is this very unusual Euthalia. (Euthalia pyrrha). That was new to me too and not expensive. Also even if there's a few scratches it's the only specimen so far I've seen offered with no chips or bad damage.
